ONLY THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG |
I had some vinyl left over from my "Wish Upon A Tray" project and the lightbulb went on. So I painted it black. The cabinet door. Not the lightbulb.
FIRST COAT |
SMEARED IT ON W/FINGERS |
After it gets tacky but not dry, add another color of acrylic paint and wait for it to dry. Or not...I was not patient so used my craft dryer ( aka an old blow dryer) to speed things up and I can't be sure, but I think the heat made it crackle more:
I just did the edges so it would look like a frame if that makes sense. I added a couple of strips of scrapbook paper on the raised panel in the middle; used my "dream" vinyl leftover from my earlier project; added an embossed metal strip from the magical mystery closet (which means it was something I picked up on sale somewhere that I knew I'd use someday) along with some dimensional flowers (Jolee's Boutique I think) from another project which I dry brused w/ gold paint and silver Rub n Buff; and a butterfly from a bag of ephemera I'd bought at a stamp show. And:

It looks terrific. Not leaving the house is certainly an effective way keep from buying any new crafty things! I love the crackle effect with the glue...better yet I have that on hand-whew!
Love it! I've been itching to try that crackle technique. You are a good woman to join this stashbusting party! I have no willpower. lol!
Wow so cute! Love the crackle.
I wish I had cabinet doors on hand for no reason. haha.
I learned something new! I didn't know you could use the glue! Thank you so much for sharing this with everyone! I love your project..it's beautiful!

Wow! What a transformation! And thanks for linking up!! I can't wait to see what other stashbusting projects you turn out!
Oh I love this one. I really like the glue crackle technique ... thanks for the great tip.
So proud that you have taken on the stashbusting challenge. Wish I could do it too but I know that I wouldn't last a couple of days right now.
Happy (belated) anniversary! I think that August has to be one of the biggest months for weddings! and thanks for adding your name to my blog giveaway today! good luck!
Nice! That looks fantastic! And, of course, we ALL keep old cabinet doors in our stash... totally normal. :)
I don't have any doors right now but I do have table legs and windows, does that count?
It turned out fabulous!! Isn't this rather satisfying, I think so!!
BTW Dollar Tree has cheap white glue in two packs for a dollar. I bet the cheaper the glue is the better it works (I keep lots of white glue around for paper mache).
Hey sweetie!! I am LOVING this project! It turned out amazing...great job! Thank you oh so very much for linking up to my Fabulous Friday Finds party and I hope you come back each week with goodies! Happy weekend to you sweets!

Hey! I love it! And I too, have cabinet doors! lol! Why throw a completely good piece of wood away? This looks awesome, I've tried that crackle technique and it really does work well, and yes, heat will make it crackle faster. lol! Well done!
That turned out awesome!
I am impressed thoroughly about the whole school glue crackle. Oh how many, many times I needed crackle and had school glue the whole time.
Great job!
Now I can honestly say that I don't keep a cabinet door on hand, but maybe I should :) great use of it & fab results :)
Wow, this is just gorgeous!! How clever and fabulous results...you are so talented!

that's pretty cool! Love the message! okay, i've never heard of the white glue versus crackle medium before... i'm living in the dark ages as usual... thanks for bringing me up to date. and actually i may not have a old cabinet door in my stash but i do have a hubcap, and empty tubes of toothpaste (kinda disgusting, i know) because you just NEVER know when these things will come in handy... you understand, obviously... :)
This is so great! And yes, certain people DO have odd cabinet doors and whatnot laying around for no reason! Kindred crafting spirits do, that is! Really well done.
So perfect. I esp. love the metal strip. I wish I had access to the mystery closet!
love it I love the saying "care to dream it" because if you can dream it you can achieve it. You are very creative and it looks great
Tiny dint made. Oh I know that feeling well! Still, it's progress, right? Great project too!

So cool - that turned out great - and that is so funny because I have that same metal strip and have had it for years waiting to use it !!!

It is gorgeous! Love that crackle technique! I just used weathered wood for the first time (I have never used a real crackle) and LOVE it.
I have tons of old cabinet drawers to go with your door - they carted my doors away before I realized it, otherwise I would have a stash.
I've done tole painting on cabinet doors before, but I love the instant gratification of your project. I'm going to find some cast-offs at the local cabinet shop!
♥hugs♥
Hey, very nice site. I came across this on Google, and I am stoked that I did. I will definitely be coming back here more often. Wish I could add to the conversation and bring a bit more to the table, but am just taking in as much info as I can at the moment. Thanks for sharing.
